The first Polish settlers arrived at Roanoke Colony in 1585. Two Polish volunteers, Casimir Pulaski and Tadeusz Kościuszko, led armies in the Revolutionary War and are remembered as American heroes.
Today, there are an estimated 9.15 million self-identified Polish Americans, representing almost 3 per cent of the US population. Polish Americans are the second-largest Central European ethnic group after Germans, and the ninth largest ethnic group overall in the United States.
Did you know that the first immigrants from Poland arrived to Jamestown, Virginia colony in 1608? They were invited by John Smith, a British soldier who was the founder of the American colony of
Jamestown in the early 1600s.
Born in Poland and raised in Germany, Zofie King came to the US in 1998. After graduating with a psychology degree in 2002, she studied the interdisciplinary craft at Towson University, then worked in interior design while taking classes at MICA and the Corcoran, and devoted herself to her studio art practice in 2012.
Tyka knew early that art would always be part of her life. At age 6 she won a children's art competition and felt her first real reward from painting. While aiming to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, she grew to love music and sports as well as art. She attended the Warsaw Philharmonic regularly as a child and developed a solid understanding of classical music, which later became a strong theme of her paintings. Skiing, tennis, flying, golf, and sailing -- she is a past national champion of Poland in small boats -- built a drive to compete and achieve that serves her well as she forges an artistic career in one country after another.
Krzysztof Lenczowski – born in 1986 in Krakow, is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin Music University in Warsaw in the cello class of prof. Tomasz Strahl and Rafał Kwiatkowski. From April 2008 to November 2009, he was a member of the Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus, and from February 2009 to January 2015 he was part of the Warsaw Cellonet Group conducted by prof. Andrzej Bauer. He also plays the guitar – he graduated from the Post-Secondary College of Jazz. H. Majewski in Warsaw in the class of prof. Piotr Lemański.
Lukasz Pawlik - pianist, cellist, composer and producer. He was born into a family with a rich musical tradition. His father Wlodek Pawlik is a Grammy-winning jazz pianist and composer.He received his musical education at Western Michigan University and Robert-Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.
He has nurtured his interests in both classical and jazz genre over the course of his life. He has been awarded top honors both at classical cello competitions, as well as jazz contests, with his first band "Kattorna", including prizes at 6. Berlin Jazz&Blues Award (2006) and Jazz nad Odrą (2008).
